Some of most interesting windmills in the Netherlands can be found in the village of Zaandam, north of Amsterdam. These windmills are still operational and can grind materials for making dyes. I wanted to capture this traditional Dutch scene featuring multiple windmills along a waterway. The foreground highlights a green wooden building with a steep red-tiled roof situated on a narrow grassy strip by the water. Adjacent to the building stands a windmill with distinct red-orange and white sails, contrasting against the overcast sky. In the background, several other windmills with muted green and red sails extend along the water edge, creating depth and a sense of continuity. The water reflects the structures and the cloudy sky, adding texture and balance to the composition. The overall atmosphere combines the rustic charm of rural Netherlands with the dynamic interplay of natural and man-made elements.
